The Echthroi are powerful, evil creatures who desire is to X (i.e. extinguish, unname) creation. Fallen angels of evil and nothingness, Echthroi spread discord and malice in order to "x" all of reality, and make it that which it is not, utterly destroying it. Existing outside size, they sow discord from the stars to the farandole and see the end of all things.
Author Calvin Miller writes that the Echthroi are "demonic spirits" that "are always stalking good, making the whole sick, the entire partial, the holy eroded by the contaminated."
Space and time hold little meaning within the Time Quintet. Humans are often frustrated and confused about these concepts. However, according to mythical creatures, these concepts are limiting and unimportant.
Namers work in the universe to love and Name parts of Creation, and help them to be themselves. This is the exact opposite of what Echthroi do in their Xing or unNaming.
The words Echthros and Echthroi occur mainly in connection with biblical studies and in literary criticism of classical literature, specifically Greek tragedy. Aristotle and others classified people encountered by characters in tragedy into "philoi" (friends and loved ones), "echthroi" (enemies), and "medetoeroi" (neithers), with the characters and their audience seeking a positive outcome for the first group and the downfall of the second.
The term also appears in Canto XII of the little-known epic The Purple Island by seventeenth-century poet and rector Phineas Fletcher, apparently in the general meaning of enemies.
These beings want to spread nothing on spiritual level, destroying not just life and matter but souls, and ruining all existence from beginning to end. Their "true" form is described as being like a gash in existence or a streak of Nothingness which is so terrible it causes 'reality' to scream, even in space.

Long ago in the vastness of space, a great, formless, mindless entity of evil arose. Before it could do harm to the universe, it was set upon by three deities. The deities fought a fierce battle against the black mass and burned the entity almost completely out of existence with their divine power. However, during the battle, one small fragment of the entity was incidentally cut from the whole by Odin and was never burned away.
Many forms of evil are extensions, agents, controlled by or spawned from this interstellar cloud of evil, a cosmic force as well as the physical incarnation of evil. IT represents evil of all types, and it takes over planets. Planets which have been fully enveloped by the dark thing are called dark planets; such as planet Uriel, which is dark, and Earth, which is partly dark. The darkness over Earth is being fought by good people. Earth is described as being “shadowed” and “fighting the shadow”, but not fully taken over by it; great artists, philosophers, religious figures, and scientists have fought back.
